Super Pollo Wilson Blvd.
Super Pollo on Wilson Boulevard won the second annual Reto Dieta Cero-Auto, with 7 participants taking a combined 24 Metrorail trips, 48 bus trips, and 166 walking trips.
The second annual Reto Dieta Cero-Auto (Car-Free Diet Challenge) was a resounding success! This year’s Challenge had 250 participants from 20 different local Hispanic-oriented Arlington businesses. Using six different modes of transit to get to and from work –Metro, bike, walk, bus, carpool and telework, employees competed against each other over a two-week period from May 14 - 27. The results were remarkable with more than 5,200 car-free trips completed. All businesses combined contributed to saving approximately 300,000+ pounds of CO2 emissions
The winner was Super Pollo of 5011 Wilson Blvd. with 238 car-free trips–completed by seven participants. One employee used three modes of transportation daily to get to work – walk, bus, and Metro. Many employees already walked, biked or carpooled to work so the program was a good way to recognize this environmentally-friendly behavior and reward them. Others tried different routes and modes of transportation to try to improve their commute.
An awards ceremony and breakfast was held to recognize the Challenge participants. Speakers included Arlington County Board Vice Chair Katie Cristol and the Interim Executive Director of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Alma Alfaro-Laska. During the ceremony, prizes were given to participants and certificates of recognition were awarded to each of the participating businesses and employees. With such a great participation this year, we’re looking forward to more businesses joining the 2018 Reto Dieta Cero-Auto.
